The Renewable Natural Resources Research and Development Centre, Jakar Bumthang, Bhutan,
is one of the four regional research centers of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests
(MoAF). It is affiliated to Department of Livestock of MoAF..
The centre has the national mandate to coordinate livestock research activities in the country
and the regional mandate to carry out all types of research under field crops, forestry,
horticulture and livestock in the East Central Region (ECR) of Bhutan that consists of four
Dzongkhags (Districts) viz. Bumthang, Trongsa, Zhemgang and Sarpang. The other responsibilities
entrusted to the centre are to take lead role in research on conifer forests (forestry) and mino
r cereals (field crops
To cater to the farmersí technology needs at national and regional level, the centre undertakes
mostly adaptive and applied research, aimed at development of appropriate technologies
and knowledge for adoption and use by farmers to enhance food production and income.

Research programs shall indentify, develop and promote innovation and appropriate technologies
that will enable farmers to enhance productivity,improve food security and socia-economic condition
The centre is responsible for research in the East Central Region,
consisting of Zhemgang, Trongsa and Bumthang Dzongkhags.
RC Jakar is represented throughout the region through the Research Centre in Jakar, the
Research Research Outreach Centre in Tingtingbi. The two centres focus on research
activities relevant to the respective administrative units and ecological zones they
are located in.
